This transformation has happened by working towards creating a fair, compassionate and healthy society in which people are able to live with respect, dignity and are given the opportunity to utilize their full potential free from the prejudice and stigma.

Mental health counseling stresses the need for prevention and work with the individuals and group to create the desired mental health. The counselors help them to deal with their addictions, abuses, impulses of suicide, self-esteem problems, mental and emotional health issues, marital problems etc.
Mental health counseling provides an out let for the mentally disturbed and the counselors work in close connection with other specialists like psychiatrists, psychologist, clinical social workers, nurses handling psychiatry and also school counselors.

The primary goal of mental health counseling is to educate and inform general public about the truth about mental health and mental illness.

Mental health counseling may not be able to give medical advice, legal advice or individual advocacy; they provide backing for the mentally disturbed and show them the right places where they can get medical help and assistance.

There are also online communities created by people involved in mental health counseling gives the opportunity to connect with other individuals facing the similar problems. Here people are able to share their views and problems and are encouraged to speak through posts and are asked to share their story about whether their journey for recovery has been successful or if they are taking their first steps towards that.

Mental health counseling creates the awareness among community as a whole to the issues and problems faced by people facing these disturbance. Compassion towards the individuals suffering this problem is the easiest and best viable solution available to us today.

Mental health counseling tells us about the type of depression called the maternal depression which is affecting many families in the communities all through the nation. Mental health counseling informs people about this disorder and gives the community solutions to deal with patients dealing with this problem. They educate people about clinical depressions and also provide confidential screening of the symptoms and when found prone give professional help.

The times today are tough and everywhere that we look it is filled with stress, anxiety and depression. In this period it has become more necessary to address the mental health and tensions of individuals than their physical aches and pain. Many a times it is found that most the aches and pains that the individuals are suffering may be due to some kind of mental depression or pressure.

Mental Health America is an organization that has over 300 affiliates in 41 states and works together with people to coordinate them with mental health services that are available in their communities.

In addition to the primary care services many community health centers are also offering mental health services. The fees they charge are according to the income. They also have facilities such as Medicaid for other low-income patients.

Employers today are having programs such as employee assistance program where they offer a specified number of counseling session and referrals to professional. Many individuals may only need these.

Most of the clergy members in today’s churches are trained in counseling and they provide free services to their people coming to church.

There are many mental health counselors who offer to do group counseling sessions that are comparatively less expensive than the one-on-one counseling.

Mental health counselors work together with individuals, their families, friends and groups and address and treat the emotional and mental disorders and thus promote mental health. They are given training in various therapeutic techniques that are used to address the mental disorder issues. Apart from personal issues they also help with career or job related concerns, educational disturbances etc. They also try solving familial problems dealing with emotional health, marital relationship problems etc. These counselors diagnose and also treat mental illness in many states and refer to specialist only if it is out of their hands.

In today’s times when chaos is ruling it is difficult for people not to feel the pressure and stress. There is no time for anyone now to just sit and relax. The speed of life is such that only stress and problems are there. Mental health is becoming a major issue in the world, the number of mental health problems is increasing and there is great demand for mental health counseling. No individual is ready to compromise anything; there is no adjustment between partners. The things that ought to be for relaxation are now turning into problem creators.

The awareness of mental health counseling is now widening and society taking in this idea for helping troubled individual. Society is being educated that these patients require the love and support from the family, friends and society for them to come out the depressions and tensions surrounding them.

Symptoms of Colon Cancer

Cancer occurs usually when something goes wrong in the cell system. There are millions of cells in our body which grow, divide and die following a particular system. Cancer causes cell division and growth that goes beyond control. Extra tissue is formed as cancer cells form a lump. When these cancerous tumours occur in the colon, the condition is referred to as colon cancer.

Symptoms of colon cancer usually manifest only in the advanced stages. This is one of the reasons why it is essential to go through regular colon cancer screenings. Some of the prominent colon cancer symptoms include cramping in the stomach, thin stools, extreme fatigue and unexplained weight loss. Colon cancer is found to after people who are above fifty years of age. Causes are believed to be inflammatory bowel disease, smoking, alcohol and obesity. Treatment usually depends on the stage and the extent to which cancer has spread. As with all other cancer types, colon cancer is easily treatable in its early stages. Advanced stages are treated with surgery followed by chemotherapy and radiation.

There are a few symptoms which you can be aware of related to colon cancer. Constipation is the first prominent symptom of colon cancer . Slushy waste material found in the beginning of the colon can easily manoeuvre around any obstructions. At the end of the colon however, stool is solid and it becomes difficult to by pass any obstacle. If there is a tumour therefore, the first symptom exhibited is constipation.

Thin stool is another major symptom of colon cancer. Moving on from the slushy phase, the nature of the stool that comes out of your body can provide vital clues on any problem. A thin stool indicates clearly that there is something obstructing the movement of your waste through the colon. Colon rectal cancer occurs due to a tumour in the colon closer to the rectum.

Another prominent symptom of colon cancer includes cramps in the stomach. When there is a blockage in the colon, it may become difficult for solids, liquids or even gases to pass through. This can cause severe cramps due to restricted or complete blockage of blood flow to the colon. If the wall of the bowel is perforated by the tumour, it results in extremely severe pain. It is in fact an emergency situation.

Bleeding is a symptom of tumour. If there is blood in your stool, it is a cause for concern. It may be a symptom of colon cancer. The blood may dry and become almost invisible if the tumour is present in the beginning of the colon. If it is towards the rectum, then you will find fresh blood which is bright red in colour in your stools.
Weight loss is another symptom of colon cancer. If you lose weight effortlessly, it means that something is not alright. If it is due to colon cancer, then the tumour may have advanced enough to increase your metabolism by releasing certain chemicals.

Rectal tumours cause a feeling of fullness which is another symptom. This feeling may be due to the fact that your body reacts to something extra hanging at the exit. There is a constant feeling of a need to pass motion which cannot be relieved.

While nausea and vomiting can signify many other things such as drinking alcohol, common virus attacks, unpleasant smell and sight or motion sickness. However, it can also be a symptom of colon cancer.

As the tumour grows inside the colon, there is a pattern of bloating and gastric problems. This is due to the blockage caused by the tumour. Even if the tumour is relatively small and does not obstruct the bowels significantly, it may block the waste on and off causing an uneasy feeling. Air is trapped and bloating occurs due to the blockage of bowels. When the blockage gets released, you will be affected by problems related to gas.

Colon cancer results in deficiency of iron in the body which leads to anaemia. Anaemia makes you feel lethargic and extremely tired. Bleeding caused by the tumours leads to a loss of iron which is an important element that supplies cells with oxygen. Anaemia usually occurs in patients suffering from tumour in the beginning of the colon. As the beginning of the colon is quite spacious, it takes quite some time for symptoms to reveal itself. In fact, the tumour is pretty advanced by the time you can recognize the symptoms.

Even if you are aware of what you have to look for, keep in mind that colon tumour take quite a while to exhibit symptoms. Symptoms themselves are not completely reliable predictors of the disease. The best thing is to have periodic colon cancer screening. This is one of the easiest methods to catch and treat the disease in its early stages.

A complete tour of the Body Mass Index Concept

Every individual likes to maintain a good health. One of the main reasons for health complications is either over weight or underweight. It is therefore extremely important for an individual to be aware as to how much is he/she weighting.

One of the best ways of keeping an eye on your weight count on a regular basis is by calculating your body mass index every now and then. By doing so you would be able to figure out if your weight is in healthy range or not.

The weight on an individual should always complement the height of that individual in the best possible manner. The age of the person also plays a very important role. You need to understand that an individual who is 20 years of age would have to have more weight if he is 6 feet tall as compared to an individual who is of same age but only 5 feet tall. Incase, the individual who is 5 feet tall has the same weight as the 6 feet individual then either one of them is overweight or underweight. Few steps of calculating your body mass index

  • There are few different things that you would require to carry out the process of calculation of your body mass index.
  • Make sure that you have all the necessary things which are required for the calculation process
  • The materials needed are mostly household materials which are easily found in our house.
  • Paper, calculator, pencil and a yardstick are some of the most essential materials that one has to arrange for the purpose of calculation of body mass index.
  • You should make use of the yardstick in order to measure your height. Make sure that you measure the height in inches.
  • Make sure that you measure your height in the most accurate way. It is highly recommended that you measure it a couple of times to be rest assured of the measurement.
  • Note down your height in inches. Once you have the number of inches noted down, you then have to multiply the number by the same number. Basically you have to square the number of inches.
  • Your next step is to measure your weight. Again make sure that your measurement is accurate. Then divide your weight into pounds with the number of inches squared.
  • You would then get a random number. You then have to multiply the number by 703. By doing this you would be able to find your Body Mass Index.
  • Incase you get a Body mass index which shows a number which is less than 18 then you are an underweight individual.
  • Incase the answer you get is less 18.5 then you fall in the category of people who are underweight as compared to their height.
  • You would fall in the category of healthy weight people incase the Body Mass index answer is anywhere from18.6 to 24.9 and hence you can continue to maintain your weight on a consistent basis.
  • However, incase your answer exceeds 25 than you should start losing weight as it means that you are an overweight individual.
  • Incase the answer of your body mass index is more than 30 than its an alarming situation as it means that you are an obese individual.

There are many people in the world who make use of the body mass index method in order to maintain their weight in the best possible manner and compliment their weight with their height and age. It is not necessary that you have to carry out the body mass index calculator process all by yourself at your house. You can always take help of your family doctor in order to know your body mass index. Infact it is highly recommended that you include the process of calculating your body mass index in the regular check up program.

An individual can live an extremely healthy life if he/she is able to maintain their weight on a consistent basis. Many people feel that being overweight is the only problem which leads to health complications and try to remain as thin as possible.

However, such individuals forget the fact that underweight can also cause some serious health complications. By calculating body mass index you can not just keep a control of your weight incase you are overweight but you can also work hard to gain weight incase you find out that you are underweight. So calculate your body mass index today.

Symptoms, Causes, Treatment of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

An aneurysm is a localized widening of a blood vessel in an area. Aortic aneurysm would involve the aorta and could develop anywhere along the length of the aorta. The majority of aneurysm is located in the abdominal aorta. In most of the abdominal aneurysms are located under the renal arteries, the vessels, which leave the aorta and they go to kidneys. Two-third of abdominal aneurysm are not just limited to the aorta but get extended from the aorta into one or both the iliac arteries. Most of the abdominal aortic aneurysms are fusiform and are spindle shaped and widen all around the circumference of the aorta. The walls inside of the aneurysm are often lined with a blood clot that is like a piece of plywood.

The abdominal aortic aneurysm is mostly common after the age of 60 years. Males get affected five times more than females due to this disorder. Several studies show that about five percent of men above the age of sixty do develop an abdominal aortic aneurysm. There are several risk factors for abdominal aortic aneurysm and this includes cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes mellitus. Due to cigarette smoking it not only increases the risk of developing an abdominal aortic aneurysm but there is a chance of aneurysm rupture, which could be life-threatening and is a complicate the aortic aneurysm. The incidence of aortic aneurysm rupture will be very common in most of the smokers.

The most common cause of the abdominal aortic aneurysm is called arteriosclerosis or hardening of the arteries. In eighty percent of the aortic aneurysm are due to arteriosclerosis and this could weaken the aortic wall. The pressure of the blood that is being pumped through the aorta will cause expansion at the site of weakness. The other causes of aortic aneurysm could be due to hereditary factor. Individuals who are first-degree relatives who have abdominal aortic aneurysm will have higher risk of developing abdominal aortic aneurysm than the general population. These individuals will tend to develop the aneurysm at young age and will suffer aneurysm rupture than those people without such a history. Genetic disease, arteritis and mycotic infection are other causes of abdominal aortic aneurysm.

There is no specific symptom for abdominal aortic aneurysm as they are asymptomatic. These are often discovered when the abdominal ultrasounds or CT scan s studies are done for other conditions. The only symptom that they produce is pain and it is typically has a deep quality and it is boring into the person. The pain would predominant in the middle of the abdomen and could radiate into the back. The pain will be study and could be relieved by changing the position. The abdominal aortic aneurysm would remain asymptotic and will produce no or mild symptoms for many years. If the abdominal aortic aneurysm spreads rapidly then it could be severe and the patient will have unbearable pain.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm can be diagnosed clinically by health practitioner by checking the abdomen and by feeling the abnormal wide pulsation of the abdominal aorta. This will be generally felt in both sides if the aorta that is in the midline of the aorta. Large aneurysm will be difficult to detect in overweight people. Aneurysms that is on the verge of rupture and that is rapidly enlarging are mostly tender. There will be abnormal sound heard in the stethoscope due to the turbulence of blood within the aneurysm.

Ultrasonography will give a clear picture of abdominal aortic aneurysm and has an accuracy of 98 percent in measuring the size of the aneurysm and it is safe and noninvasive. Computerized tomography of the abdomen will be more accurate in detecting the size and extent of the aneurysm. But this method will use high doses of radiation and requires intravenous dye. MRI is also conducted to detect the abdominal aortic aneurysm.

The complication that could develop will be rupture in abdominal aortic aneurysm and could be catastrophic. The surgery treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysm will prevent it from rupture. It would be done by opening the abdomen, find the aorta and remove the aneurysm. The less invasive procedure is endovascular surgery that allows the grafts to be guided within the blood vessel in to the site of aneurysm without the need of surgery. Not every aneurysm can be fixed in this manner and this would not provide long-term benefit to the patient.

Even though the post-operative course will be shorter, there should be close follow-up and further testing. For those patients who do not require surgical treatment for abdominal aortic aneurysm, medical treatment to prevent aneurysm expansion could include stop smoking, having control on the blood pressure and control the cholesterol levels. Some physicians would medicate the patients with beta-blockers like atenolol or metoprolol, which will lower the pressure within the blood vessel. Having a close watch on the growth of aneurysm will help prevent it from catastrophe.

Acyclovir: Antiviral Theraphy

Acyclovir brought in a new revolution in antiviral therapy, with its extremely low and selective cytotoxicity. Gertrude B. Elion, the pharmacologist was given the 1988 Nobel Prize in Medicine, for partly developing of Acyclovir.

Acyclovir is different from the previous analogues of nucleoside as it contains only a partial structure of nucleoside where instead of the sugar ring it has an open chain structure. It can be converted into monophosphate which approximately 3000 times more effective in phosphorylation than the thymidine kinase cellular.

Acyclovir is considered as a prodrug, it is mostly administered in inactive form and it metabolizes after the administration into more active species. Acyclovir is active against most of the herpes virus family.

Acyclovir is not water soluble and also has poor bioavailability orally, thus when high concentration, quantity is required it is administered intravenous. When it is taken orally the effect occurs after 1-2 hours. Acyclovir has very high distribution rate .

Commonly Acyclovir is now marketed as tablets, cream, injections and ophthalmic ointment. The preparations of cream are used in labial herpes simplex. The intravenous injections are used when there is a need for very high concentration while the ophthalmic ointment preparation is generally used only for herpes simplex keratitis.

It is also known that there are some common adverse reactions that occur when there is systematic use of Acyclovir which include headache, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting etc. even hallucinations have been reported when high doses are used. The symptoms when IV is given are irritation and local tissue pain. There is also report of renal impairment when Acyclovir is being given in large and fast doses. This is due to crystallization in the kidney.

Since acyclovir can also get incorporated into the DNA it is advisable not to use it during pregnancy. It is also known that the toxicity is more in acyclovir when given orally due to its low oral bioavailability.

Acyclovir is basically prescribed to decrease pain and fasten the healing of blisters or soars in people with varicella (chickenpox) also is used to apply on rashes that occur in people who have had chickenpox in the past. Acyclovir is also used sometime to counter the outbreaks of genital herpes in people who have the viral infection.

Acyclovir usually comes as tablets, suspension and capsule which can be taken orally. The medication is done two to five times a day for five to ten days, which starts as soon as the symptoms are visible. It is required that the medication dose is taken fully and not stopped in mid way or over doses taken.

The treatment with acyclovir improves the symptoms and if the dosages are taken carefully as per prescription from the doctor the infections can be treated. Even if you feel better the medication has to be continued till the prescribed time otherwise there are chances that the infection may not be completely treated.

Acyclovir is also used sometimes in treating eczema herpeticum, an infection of skin disease caused by the herpes virus. Acyclovir+ is to be stored in the same container that it came in, tightly closed and kept out of reach of kids. It can be stored in room temperature but away from excess heat and moisture. Do not keep it in the bathroom.

In case of overdose the symptoms may include agitation, decreased urination, seizures, swelling of lower legs, hands, ankles or feet, extreme tiredness etc.Acyclovir medication should not be self administered. It should be taken only by prescription. Do not allow others to take your medication.

This medication is used to fight many of the infections caused by herpes virus and its anti viral properties are very active. The medication has to be administered very carefully so that there are no other complications that would occur. The properties of acyclovir are very active and therefore can cause other side effects if the medication is not taken as per dose or is taken in over dose.

Taking acyclovir for longer period of time is not advisable as it has properties of getting into human DNA and modifying it thus causing more trouble than wanted.

Healthy habits along with proper treatment can cure any of the symptoms that are there. All the infections can be fought with clean and good habits. Clean habits can always keep away the infections of skin and thus can make the individual more healthy and immune against infectious germs and viruses.

Acyclovir is a very effective drug that is used extensively in treating many of the disorders of the body and skin infection. This provides relief to rashes and also prevents the growth of infection causing virus.

The proper usage and knowledge of its reactions will help the individual in using acyclovir to get the desired results and cure.

Chronic Constipation and its impact

Everyone will have suffered from constipation in our life ones or many times. The survey by National Health Interview study shows that as much as 3 million Americans suffer from chronic constipation or frequent constipation. Constipation is not recognized as a serious disorder or degenerative disease, but people who get affected by constipation often feel that they have been bloated. They also feel that they feel sluggish and very much uncomfortable. Constipation by itself is very miserable but those people who suffer from it often experience very painful bowel movements that could be compounded by hemorrhoids that form due to the straining.

Medically constipation is defined as fewer than three times of bowel movement in a week and severe constipation or chronic constipation is defined as less than one bowel movement in a week. There are no medical reasons for having bowel movement every day and going without a bowel movement for two to three days would not cause any physical discomfort, but would have a mental distress for certain people. It is very important that we distinguish acute constipation i.e. recent onset constipation from that of chronic i.e. long duration constipation.

First we need to understand constipation it is important that we need understand how does our digestive system works. After we eat our food it gets grounded up in our stomach and gets digested. The liquid food passes through the small intestine and here the nutrients are extracted. The food then moves to the colon and here the water is removed from it and allows a stool to form. If much of water is extracted from the stool when it passes through the colon, it becomes hard and thereby difficult to pass leaving you constipated. This happens in people for several reasons. These would include not eating enough dietary fiber, lack of exercise, not drinking enough water or liquids, ignoring the urge to have a bowel movement and could be due to stress.

The other causes for constipation in people could include having a lazy colon that does not contract when required, food allergies that could cause the colon to contract, causing waste materials that slowly pass through the colon, or it could be mechanical obstruction that inhibit the movement of the waste materials. Several prescription drugs and certain neurological disorders could also slow down the movement of waste materials through the colon. The constipation could be brought by an abuse of laxatives that over time could damage the nerve cells in the colon and would interfere with its ability to contract properly.

Understanding the medical history and also performing a physical examination could evaluate the patients with chronic constipation. There are several tests that could be performed to evaluate constipation, but most of the patients would need only few basic tests. The other type of tests is done for those who have chronic constipation and for those whose constipation does not respond to simple treatments. The understanding about the medical history of the patient is very important and critical for many reasons, as it would allow the doctors to define the type of constipation. The history will also uncover medications and other diseases that could cause constipation. In these cases the doctors would change the medications or could treat for other disease that the patient is affected. Maintaining a dietary history by keeping a food dairy could reveal the food habits of the patient and helps the physician to recommend higher dietary fiber food during treatment.

The physical examination would help identify the disease that causes constipation. Blood test may be helpful for identifying any thyroid syndrome. The X-rays could reveal the amount of stool present in the colon and the severity of the constipation. A barium enema test is similar to x-ray which would detect any tumor development or other abnormalities could be detected with this test. The other studies like colonic transit studies, Defecography, Ano-rectal motility studies and Colonic motility studies are performed in severe situations and more detailed information is required about the type of constipation.

By having high intake of fiber diet with fruits, vegetable and whole grains would help you to keep the stool soft and help in smooth movement of stool. By drinking plenty of water is essential when you intake supplemental fiber. By eating prune or drinking prune juice would help in laxative effect. You should avoid sugar and other processed food and begin a regular exercising program for a smooth bowel movement. Avoiding allergic foods and by intake of probiotic like acidopholis will help improve the environment in colon. If all treatments fail then herbs like casgara sagrada, turkey rhubarb or other herbal combinations could be used to evacuate the colon. These herbs are less aggressive than the other commercial laxatives that are available in the market.

Everything that you wanted to know about macular hole

Macular Hole is a problem which is related to the functioning of the eyes. It is a problem because of which the central portion of the retina is affected and damaged. There are many different reasons because of which the disorder of macular hole can take place. In the following content, you would get to know all the information related to macular hole that you always wished to know.

There are many different reasons due to which macular hole can be caused in an individual. Many individuals tend to ignore eye injuries which they must have suffered in the past. Most of the eye injuries won’t cause any kind of pain and hence the individual takes the injury very casually. However, in many cases related to eye injury, internal bleeding is taking place.

Some other causes:

  • Inflammation inside the eye is also one of the major reasons for the cause of macular holes .
  • One of the most common reasons for the cause of macular hole is the aging process. As an individual grows older, the eyes tend to become weaker and the vision quality decreases. You would notice that many old age people suffer from macular hole disorder. This is because as the person gets older the vitreous separates from the retina as it becomes thinner. The Vitreous is a gel which is attached firmly to the macula. As the vitreous gets thinner there are high chances that it can result into traction on macula which than leads to the formation of a hole.

Symptoms and Signs of Macular Hole

  • One of the most common symptoms of macular hole is the fact that the central vision gets blurred and the quality of the vision decreases considerably. You might suffer from blurred vision while driving or reading. There are also many cases where in the individual suffers from blurred vision 24 hours. The initial impact or intensity of the blurred vision is very mild and hence most of the patients tend to ignore the problem.
  • Another important sign of symptom of macular hole is wavy vision. It is a little different from blurred vision. You would be able to see things clearly but the objects you are looking at or the persons you are looking at would seem to be wavy.
  • Another common symptoms is that you would face many difficulties while watching television and while reading or performing any kind of task which demands a lot of concentration of eyes. You would also face difficulties while playing sports.
  • You would slowly start developing a grey area around your central vision which would further make it difficult for you to visualize.
  • The most clear symptom of macular hole is tat you would eventually go on to develop a blind spot in the center of your vision. However, this symptom is seen in the final stages of macular hole when the patient completely ignores the problem for a very log time.

Detection of Macular Hole

Ophthalmoscopy is performed in order to detect if the individual has developed a macular hole or no. Visual acuity testing is also carried out to detect this disorder.

Treatment for Macular Hole

  • The intensity and the impact of macular hole disorder is not the same in all the patients. It changes from patient to patient and hence the treatment for macular hole cannot be universal. There are many cases where in the intensity and the damage caused by macular hole is almost negligible and the hole tends to seal spontaneously and hence there is absolutely no need of any kind of treatment.
  • There are many cases where in the macular hole reaches a stage where it can only be cured with the help of a surgery. This often takes place when individuals tend to ignore the early signs and symptoms.
  • One of the common ways of surgery is to remove the vitreous gel gently. By doing this the surgeon makes sure that there is absolutely no chance of traction on macula. The next step is to inject a gas bubble into the eye and to make sure that the hole is sealed.

These were some of the facts and some of the important information related to macular hole. One thing that you need to keep in mind is that on most of the occasion’s macular hole would only affect one of your eyes and not both. There are very slim chances that the macular hole would get developed in the other eye as well. However, you must take all the necessary precautions.

High fiber food- Secret for healthy living

Are you obese and want to lose weight the healthy way?  It is not difficult to lose weight in the modern era considering high fiber foods available in the market. Scientists have done lot of research in dieting and have found out the simplest way of losing weight. You must know how to eat and what to eat. You can combine walking and light exercise daily. A brisk walk for twenty minutes each day will make you slim down. Never miss your breakfast.  All the night you were keeping your stomach empty and remaining in the same condition creates acidity. A fruit of high fiber content or a toast can do the difference. The food of high fiber content should contain at least 5 grams of fiber per serving.

Many people consume foods containing fiber content which satisfy only half the body’s needs. Legumes like dried  beans, vegetables like cabbages, fruits like apple and whole grains have high fiber content which is beneficial for the human body. High fiber food prevents constipation, manages weight loss and lowers bad cholesterol.

Sugar and milk products can be avoided from your diet which causes inflammation. Avoid consuming fried foods and bakery items like Pizzas, burgers and even finger chips. They contain saturated fatty acids with bad cholesterols which mix with blood stream and form scales on the inner walls of blood vessels in the arteries. High blood pressure, hypertension and diabetes are the resulting diseases due to the intake high fatty food.
Research has found that naturally occurring dietary fiber intake reduces weight more effectively compared to dietary fiber in supplements. Soya beans are rich in soluble fiber and can be consumed in the form of soya milk and soy milk products. Oats are rich source of dietary fiber and make a tasty meal. Rye, barley and chia can form components of your breakfast with high fiber content.

Soluble fibers are found in the pulp of the plum and insoluble dietary fibers are found in the peel of the plum. Black berry, pear and rubus are rich in dietary fiber. Raw or half boiled carrots give maximum benefits of dietary fiber intake. Broccoli is a vegetable rich in fiber which has a good effect on metabolism. Spinach and quinoa contain high amount of soluble fiber. The skins of potatoes, onions and sweet potatoes are rich in dietary fibers and should be included while cooking.

Increase of soluble fiber in the food has direct relation to a higher amount of nutrients. High fiber food helps in generation of fluids in the body that reduces craving for food by the individual. Fiber aids in metabolism of fat and prevents storage and deposition of excess fat in the body. Dietary fiber holds some of the carbohydrates for better absorption and assimilation. The blood sugar level is maintained by a higher fiber diet.

Dietary fibers are responsible for the structure of the vegetable or the fruit. They are chemically cellulose, polysaccharides, gums and lignins. The human body digests all these fibers and absorbs as nutrients. The fibers cure the disorders of the colon and make it function better. Fiber is known as roughage and enables a wavelike movement of food inside the intestines. It expands the walls of the large intestines from the inside and prevents diseases of the colon. The waste passes through the colon with ease. Fiber absorbs several times more weight of water producing softer feces.

Africans living in villages eat high fiber foods and therefore discharge the stools faster than the population in the urban environment. The softer and bulkier stool prevents constipation and avoids hemorrhoids. The harmful and toxic materials in the intestines are also cleared with the roughage and diseases are avoided. Irritable bowel syndrome and diverticulosis can be cured by intake of high fiber foods. IBS is the most observed disorder of the lower digestive tract in the people of urban society. It’s a combination of symptoms like diarrhea, constipation, bloating and spasm. Anxiety and emotional tension cause Irritable Bowel Syndrome. The best way to reduce these psychological effects, the person has to consume high fiber food.
High fiber food can avoid colon cancer which is a popular disease in western society. Initially, a colon polyp in the shape of mushroom starts growing in the colon. It turns into a cancer due to prolonged neglect.

Excessive consumption of high fiber food binds and stops the absorption of some minerals like calcium, iron, selenium, magnesium, copper and zinc. To compensate for this deficiency, the person has to consume dietary supplements.

An adult is suggested to take at least 25 to 30 grams of fiber per day proportional to the intake of calorie. High fiber food absorbs water like sponge and creates the fullness feeling for the food consumer. Because of the high fiber content, the stomach reduces the speed of digestion and the intestines absorb more nutrients.
